Hydrating Body Cream

This simple and customizable recipe for a DIY body cream uses Olivem 1000, shea butter, and natural oils to deliver hydration and nourishment for all skin types!

A Distilled Water 70.0 700g
A Glycerin (Humectant) 4.0 40g
A Xanthan Gum (Thickener) 0.3 3g
B Olivem 1000 (Emulsifier) 5.0 50g
B Babassu Oil (Softening) 5.0 50g
B Shea Butter (Moisturizer) 5.0 50g
B Sweet Almond Oil 5.0 50g

 

Instructions

  1. Prepare Phase A:
    • Combine xanthan gum and glycerin in a heat-safe container. Add to distilled water while mixing well. Let it hydrate for a few minutes.
  2. Prepare Phase B:
    • In a separate heat-safe container, combine Olivem 1000, babassu oil, shea butter, and sweet almond oil.
  3. Heat Both Phases:
    • Heat Phase A and Phase B to approximately 70–75°C using a double boiler.
  4. Combine Phases:
    • Slowly pour Phase B into Phase A while mixing with an immersion blender or high-shear mixer. Blend thoroughly for 2–3 minutes to form an emulsion.
  5. Cool Down and Add Phase C:
    • Once the mixture has cooled to around 40°C, add the preservative, vitamin E, and essential oil (if using). Stir well to combine.
  6. Package:
    • Pour the cream into a clean, sterilized container and allow it to cool completely before sealing.
